BSC Expo 2019 Report
Paul MacKenzie BSC Expo returned to the Battersea Evolution on Friday February 1st and Saturday 2nd. It is a busy and friendly event though this year in need of some temperature control: exhibitors around the entrance area were uncomfortably aware of the wintry conditions outside and the main hall was in need of cooling.

What is next after University
Ruta Kairyte

I currently find myself in between two landmark moments. A few weeks ago I was completely immersed in producing live television content, and in a few weeks time I will become an official BSc (Hons) Television & Broadcasting graduate from the University of Portsmouth. When I look back at who I was in my first year of university, I remember a shy girl from the other side of Europe, unsure at whether a career in television was the right path to take. Now, after three years of university, I can definitely say that I made the best choice of my life by choosing this degree. I’m leaving university confident and motivated, knowing that I made the right choice in study, and I really want that career in the television industry.

Managing Talent
Nicole Inanc Presenting for television is a talent that is critically competitive. Budding presenters around the world produce showreels, attend acting schools and fight to be the next Ant and Dec¦ but what is it exactly that makes a successful television presenter? As a wannabe TV presenter myself, I wanted to explore the exact process talent managers follow when finding the next big thing and whether I have exactly what it takes.

Stability not short-term subscriptions
Lewis Kirkaldie I've been watching the prospect of subscription-based tools with interest. I talk to customers a lot, and they too are monitoring the situation. Some can see advantages; others are wary. I think it depends very much on what the tool is. Being able to switch a service on and off is attractive for some applications. I can see that a particular set of video effects, for example, could be vital for a production and previously it was hard to justify a purchase for a one-off job. If you only pay for the time you use it, that is good.

Splitting Image
N/A The traditional CRT monitor stack is now all but consigned to the annals of history. Not the vain claim of some clever marketing agency or the opening pitch of a sharp dressed sales rep but more the demise of a technology that is becoming less and less available. While manufacturers still have a few CRT models available in their portfolio weve seen them becoming less and less as the market has moved to different technologies.

SRW-5800 Training
N/A Hi Dave, how was the course? This is the sort of greeting you come to expect from fellow engineers when you have recently attended a training course. Engineers are notorious for having no small talk, probably because our minds are usually concerned with things like volts, amps and ohms¦ and why that VTR always works on the bench, but fails as soon as it is put into service.
