Valley Baptist Church Relies on FOR-A in Major Facility HD Upgrade Posted: 29/04/2016

Bakersfield, C.A.-based Valley Baptist Church built their SDI digital facility in 2005 when an HD control room wasnt an affordable option. Last year around the tenth anniversary of its video production facility, the church decided it was time for an upgrade. Valley Baptist worked with systems integrator Technical Innovations Blue Hat Design to complete the churchs major million-dollar control room transition to HD in just six days. A major component of the upgrade was a FOR-A video production package that included: the HVS-2000 switcher, MV-4200 multi-viewer, FA-505 multi-channel signal processor, MFR-5000 routing switcher and LTS-60 media archiving server.

You need more damn pixels
Jan Weigner There has obviously been a lot of chatter in recent years about 4K, but is it enough? 8K and beyond is where the excitement lies, but not in the way you might think. 8K and beyond for broadcast, both of which are easily achievable in a software-only, IP environment, may seem a bridge too far for most at the moment, and they're probably right¦for now.

Trends in IP based broadcast
Glodina Lostanlen The momentum behind moving media operations to IP-based environments is unstoppable and to stay ahead of the competition these days, companies need to be migrating operations away from rigid, single-purpose components and towards software-based common computing resources.

Social streaming and broadcast
Craig Moehl We are witnessing a growing trend from broadcasters looking to complement TV content with social streaming. When done well, it can really help increase consumer engagement on a huge scale and we have seen some great examples of it over recent months. At the recent Kit Plus Show, I talked about the marriage between broadcast and social streaming, what works, and what some of our customers have been doing in this arena.

Mr MXF thinks the future is bright
Bruce Devlin I have had the good fortune to spend some time with students at Southampton Solent, The University of Surrey, Ravensbourne and Godalming College in the last few weeks. Although student numbers are down on the technology courses, enthusiasm is high and the passion for the broadcast and media industry is evident in the eyes of the stars of tomorrow.

Health and Safety gone mad
Dick Hobbs. The first true broadcast television service started 80 years ago, on 2 November, 1936. Its home, famously, was Alexandra Palace, a vast and really rather run-down building on top of Muswell Hill in north London. Originally opened in 1873, and re-opened in 1875 after a catastrophic fire, it was built primarily as an entertainment venue. Indeed, it was built as "a palace of the people", a usage of that expression a century or more before most of us associate it.

Where university meets universe with Tim Peake
Georgia Thirtle If you had told me last year that, going into my second year at the University of Portsmouth, I would have met and interviewed Tim Peake, then I would have probably laughed and said something along the lines of "I wish". Well, turns out I didn't have to wish, because I did just that.
