This 12-camera HD OB van would be an ideal solution for concerts and live events production, with its strong focus on delivering high-quality audio.

A small For-A HVS-XT100 means the vehicle can operate independently as a 12-camera HD OB van, or for larger productions it can be used as a dedicated audio truck that can provide an auxiliary production area.

12-camera HD OB van with powerful audio capabilities

The OB van boasts a 96-input Studer Vista 1 audio mixer with 32 faders, 80 analogue mic lines in and 80 out as well as eight AES in/out. It includes a 64-channel MADI option card and Lexicon reverb pack, while peripherals include a 48-input/16-output stage rack.

Avid HD MADI is coupled with SSL Live Recorder to provides 64 channel of MADI I/O. An Apple Mac Pro with Raid SSD 24Gb RAM and Avid Pro Tools 11HDX provide a highly capable professional studio environment.

The van’s audio gallery is equipped with 5.1 surround sound powered by five Genelec 8130A speakers and one SE7261A subwoofer. A Yamaha NS1- Stereo 2.0 set-up completes the speaker line-up.

Video monitoring in this area comes courtesy of two Lumon 24″ HD monitors, paired with two NEC 23″ HD monitors for Mac Pro.

The desk itself can fit up to three operators, while to the rear of the audio gallery are two flexible work stations with bench seating.

Flexible production gallery for primary or auxiliary use

The two-seat production area is separated from the audio gallery by an open doorway. A For-A HVX-XT100 HD vision mixer with 12 HD-SDI inputs and four HD-SDI/one HDMI outputs is located here. There is the potential to upgrade to a larger vision mixer if required. ES Broadcast is able to source suitable equipment and undertake any systems integration work you may require to make the vehicle suitable for your purposes.

Two Lumon 24″ HD video monitors and a pair of Genelec 8030 speakers are also installed here, along with an Altair EF200 Centrale Filaire 2 intercom. A further two flexible work stations are located opposite the gallery.

The HD OB van runs on an AJA Kumo 32 x 32 3G-SDI router, which comes with a control panel and Canare patch router with 112 BNC connections. Patch audio is included on the Studer Vista 1 system, while two Ghielmetti 48-in/out patch panels have also been added. The van has one BlackMagic Design HyperDeck Studio and one HyperDeck Studio Pro SSD recorder.

12-camera HD OB van in pristine condition

Built in 2013 and presented in excellent condition throughout, this left-hand drive 12-camera HD OB van meets Euro 5 emissions standards, has amassed less than 9,000 km.

Doha 360 Selects Ikegami UHK-430 and HDK-99 Cameras for New 4K OB Vehicle

Ikegami UHK-430 and HDK-99 cameras have been selected for a recently completed 4K OB vehicle commissioned by Doha 360, an IP-based media platform which enhances Qatar's national identity and reflects social and cultural progress through continuous coverage of cultural, sports and social events.

Designed and built by Milan-based broadcast system integrator Aret Video & Audio Engineering, the vehicle was commissioned in time to cover the Qatar National Day festivities celebrating the country's foundation in 1878.

"The Ikegami cameras were selected both for their high signal quality and for the proven excellence of Ikegami post-sale support," comments Aret's Vice President Alessandro Asti. "Eight UHK-430 models have been purchased plus two docking-style HDK-99. All 10 cameras can be tripod or pedestal mounted to achieve steady long-zoom closeup capture of fast-moving action while retaining the freedom to operate in free-style over-the-shoulder mode. The HDK-99 can be configured to feed directly from the camera control unit into any 4K periphery."

Mo-Sys introduces the one-stop 4K virtual studio

Mo-Sys, a world leader in precision camera tracking solutions for virtual studios and augmented reality, has brought virtual studio production within reach of everyone with StarTracker Studio, the world’s first pre-assembled production package. The system is scalable to any size production, and can support 4K Ultra HD.

Critical for virtual studio and augmented reality production is to track the position of each camera in three-dimensional space across all six axes of movement. StarTracker from Mo-Sys is proven as the most precise and reliable camera tracking package, using dots on the studio ceiling (“stars”) which are placed at random and tracked to plot camera positions with extraordinary accuracy.

Globecast, the global solutions provider for media, has announced that Virgin Media, an existing customer, has turned to the company to provide a robust and flexible playout solution for its ‘pop-up’ HD exercise channel Get Moving.

During these ongoing difficult Covid times, online and TV-based exercise classes and workout recommendation shows have become extremely popular as people want to get, or maintain, fitness and to feel part of a group. Video Europe Goes Back to its Roots

Video Europe, leading digital cinema, broadcast and edit hire company has announced an operational restructure to streamline their business proposition.

In a strategic move decided in January and prior to the Covid-19 pandemic lockdown, the company is to return to their original and core business offering of equipment rental to the film and television industry. As part of the process, Video Europe is officially exiting the outside broadcast and flypack services market and is selling their OB trucks. The restructure will enable the company to refocus on three business channels: digital cinema, edit equipment rental and broadcast hire. No staff will be lost.

Ikegami Announces BSX-100 3G Fibre Base Station

Ikegami Electronics Europe (www.ikegami.de) announces a new addition to its range of broadcast production equipment. The BSX-100 is a 3G fibre base station offering a coherent upgrade path for broadcasters and production companies as they progress from SDI to IP, from standard dynamic range to high dynamic range and from high definition into HD/4K dual-format workflow.

The BSX-100 is fully compatible with Ikegami Unicam HD system cameras, including the HDK-99 and HDK-73. It will also support Ikegami's future 4K-native cameras. In its standard form, the base station provides 3G-SDI/HD-SDI HD output.

SMPTE ST.2110 Media over IP interfacing is available as an option for use across 10GbE and 25GbE networks. Also available as an option is a 4K output software key allowing use of HD cameras in a variety of configurations which include simultaneous production in HD and 4K resolutions. Complementary 12G-SDI / 3G-SDI quad link interfaces are also available. This approach allows 3G camera systems to be integrated into 4K environments easily and cost-efficiently.

The Ikegami BSX-100 provides full support for Hybrid Log Gamma in conformance with ITU-R BT.2100 which is the international standard for HDR. Wide colour gamut is also supported.

Accurate Ad Tracking with OTT
Tim Armstrong As viewers embrace and transition to OTT, the opportunities and flexibility provided to advertisers are growing fast. However, like all technology shifts, this transition hasn’t come without challenges. Some technology used to monetise video over the years has resulted in a less-than-ideal viewing experience, with disruptive transitions and buffering two of the main issues. The good news is that advances in ad insertion technology mean content providers can now deliver a seamless OTT viewing experience, as well as addressable advertising options. This paves the way for the delivery of high-quality ad viewing while growing the advertiser's ROI.

The Business Case for Hybrid TV and AI
Oliver Botti Video on demand (VOD) and OTT live services have come a long way since their introduction and, rather than solely competing with traditional broadcasting, they are becoming more important than ever in helping to keep broadcast TV networks popular, in particular when combining TV broadcasting with online TV into Hybrid TV models, thanks to convergence standards such as HbbTV and Atsc3.0. In the UK, the average weekly OTT viewing minutes shot up from 60 in July 2015 to 152 in September 2018. Meanwhile, OTT TV and video revenues are expected to reach $6.8 billion by 2023 in the UK and $61 billion in the US.

The Importance of Audio Production Systems
Tom Knowles Large-scale entertainment programming presents a unique set of challenges for broadcasters. Often extremely high-profile keystones of a broadcaster’s schedule and increasingly billed as live ‘event television’, as well as delivering the very best audio quality they demand a huge degree of flexibility and agility in terms of their production. With music being such a core component of their appeal to growing audiences, in both linear broadcast and online, nowhere is that more important than their audio production systems.

Why Routing Control
Mark Davies Routing control sits at the very heart of all advanced control systems. A well-configured system that manages signal routes throughout a facility and groups multi-level actions into a single control surface allows for much richer and focused production. Using one-touch panels, operators could route video, audio and data signals between the various elements of a network, perhaps to route a camera signal to a vision mixer, as well as through other processors, before it arrives at its destination. Users could adopt routing control to trigger an external event, a complete reconfiguration of a multi-router setup, route several sources simultaneously, or make set routes or multiple routes via a single button press.

TVFutures My Dive in to Learning
Lucy Crow In 2014 I had my first taste of underwater diving. I was on a family holiday and I happened across the experience of a lifetime. Within the first few minutes of that adventure I had decided that I wanted to be part of the diving world going forward. After countless dives and extensive training to become a scuba diving instructor, I made the decision to attend university. I knew that whatever I was going to study, I wanted it to involve my passion for Scuba.

Control, as easy as pressing a button
Bazile Peter

A fundamental issue with control surfaces in modern broadcast operations is that they are, for the most part, old fashioned.

The ease, responsiveness, and functionality of touchscreens, especially in Smartphones are now commonplace. Attributes that are largely absent from touchscreens are typically buttons, sliders, and dials found on many control devices associated with human machine interaction.
