Sony PVM A250

Sony PVM-A250 25-inch TRIMASTER EL™ OLED Monitor
Slim, lightweight and robust OLED monitor ideal for field applications and studio monitoring.

The PVM-A250 (25-inch) monitor has a TRIMASTER EL™ OLED panel for outstanding colour accuracy and offers the widest viewing angles of any professional flat-panel monitor on the market, ensuring group monitoring is easy to set-up and exceptionally reliable.
It also features an industry-leading, lightweight and shallow body* with an approximately 40 per cent reduction compared to the previous PVM-2541A model. Consequently, it is very easy to carry, even by one person, and this stylish design also includes a detachable handle, robust double-coated paint finish and optional protection panel and corner bumpers**.

Key Features:
Stylish lightweight and slim body
Wide range of applications
Industry’s widest viewing angle
New design innovation
Accurate colour reproduction
Slim and Lightweight - Easy to Carry
The PVM-A250 monitor achieves the industry-leading lightweight and slim body* – the PVM-A250 weighs 6.1 kg and is approx. 40 per cent thinner than the previous PVM-2541A model. This advantage allows users to widen their applications, including field monitoring and installation on the monitor wall and OB van.

Viewing angle innovation
The PVM-A250 incorporates the TRIMASTER EL™ OLED panel and offers the industry’s widest viewing angles for any professional flat-panel monitor on the market.

Accurate black reproduction
A key advantage of TRIMASTER EL is the fact that each pixel can be turned completely off. No other display technology is able to offer this. In comparison, TRIMASTER EL is capable of reproducing accurate black with each individual pixel, enabling users to evaluate each picture image faithfully to the signal.

Accurate colour reproduction
Sony’s OLED Super Top Emission technology not only offers a wide colour gamut with its high purity of the three primary colours, but also maintains this wide colour gamut throughout the entire luminance range. TRIMASTER EL system is truly an ideal display device for accurate picture reproduction. With OLED, users can see the details in the blacks, and see the colours as well.

Quick response with virtually no motion blur
The TRIMASTER EL grey-to-grey switching speed (measured in microseconds, μs) is much faster than that of the LCD (measured in milliseconds, ms).* This fast response benefits a variety of applications and uses, for example, in sports broadcasting.

Optional protection kit
The BKM-PP25 optional accessory kit provides an AR-coated protection panel for the 25-inch monitor, along with corner bumpers to safeguard the monitor from scratches and impact.

Yoke-mount and VESA-mount capability
The PVM-A250 has screw holes on its side bezels for yoke-mounting. This type of mounting is convenient when installing a monitor to a camera crane or monitor stand in the field. There are also VESA mount 100-mm pitch holes on each monitor’s rear panel.

Room clearance connector panel design
The connector panel on the rear of each monitor is designed to allow sufficient cord clearance, despite of the unit’s slim dimension. This design allows space saving and cabling flexibility.

Input versatility
The PVM-A250 monitor is equipped with built-in standard input interfaces: 3G/HD/SD-SDI (x2), HDMI (HDCP) input (x1) and composite (x1).

Computer signal input capability
Multiple computer signals can be received via an HDMI/DVI interface; the resolution range is from 640 x 480 to 1680 x 1050 pixels.

Waveform monitor and vector scope display
An input signal’s waveform and vector scope with an SDIembedded 2-channel audio level meter can be displayed on screen. Both the waveform monitor and vector scope have various modes, including a zoom function (in an area of 0 to 20 IRE) with the waveform monitor, and a zoom function (in the central black area) with the vector scope, for adjusting white balance. The waveform of a specified line can also be displayed.

Camera focus function
The PVM-A250 monitor can control the aperture level of a video signal, and display images on the screen with sharpened edges to help camera focus operation. Further to this, the sharpened edges can be displayed in user-selectable colours (white, red, green, blue, and yellow) for more precise focusing.

Optimised low-latency I/P conversion
An I/P conversion system delivers automatically optimised signal processing according to input signals, with low latency (less than 0.5 field). This helps with editing and monitoring fast-moving images, and with synchronising audio with lip sync.

Improved flicker free function
A flicker free function is available that offers an improvement in the default setting of brightness control.

On screen Tally
The monitor is equipped with a three-colours red, green and yellow On-screen Tally function.

Network control function
The PVM-A250 has a network control function that allows you to upgrade the monitor software by Ethernet very easily. The network capability will also be utilised for a central control of multiple units in a system environment.

Additional professional features
The monitor has a number of additional features, including: Time Code display (LTC/VITC-supported); safety area markers; closed caption display (EIA/CEA-608 and EIA/CEA-708, SDI only); 8-channel audio level meter display; and external remote control function.

Looking for the Silver Lining
Harry Grinling According to the World Meteorological Organisation, there are 10 different types of cloud, each of which can be divided further into sub-types. They range from the cirrus, the thin floaty clouds which generally serve only to make the sky look beautiful to the towering, all-embracing cumulonimbus which can deliver fearful quantities of rain – the biggest cumulonimbus clouds can contain 50 million tonnes of water.

NAB Intelligence
Bruce Devlin - new It's that time of year again. 06:30 on road bikes on the Las Vegas Strip with a merry bunch of folks who believe they look good in lycra. As we pedal West up the hill towards Red Rock there will be stories of the year just gone and questions about what to look for at the show. I, for one, will be attending the Devoncroft event to check up on who is spending what and where. I will then look forward to the topics that might be buzzing around the halls. I predict there will be many displays of Machine Learning hiding under the banner of Artificial Intelligence. Some of these will show better picture quality, others will show personalisation engines, some will be improved search tools and yet more will be synthesising pictures and motions to replace reality with and Artificial reality that's more compelling for the viewer.

TV Futures - The Shadowing Experience
Daniel Jones My name is Daniel Jones, and it is no accident that I’m currently studying BSc (Hons) Television and Broadcasting at the University of Portsmouth. Since completing GSCE media studies I have been constantly questioning what I watch with questions such as, “Wow, how was that filmed?” or “That looks amazing, I wonder how long that took?” It should come as no surprise that I made it a big focus of mine to get myself some real work experience to give myself some answers to these production questions.

Keeping Your Post Prodction on Track with Subclips and Search Bins
Alex Macleod

For my 2nd Kit Plus article I thought I’d try and build on the theme of my first, and that’s one of making sure things are organised at all levels of your post production projects.

Last time I talked about trying as best as you can to stick to the ‘two week rule’, making sure that the names & locations of every asset you import, and every bin & sequence that you create in your project - will make sense to you regardless of how long it is you spend away from it.

4k and HDR Wireless Camera Transmitters
David Edwards Across the globe, live events represented over 50 percent of the most watched TV programs last year. However, big budget episodic shows are impacting live TV and the way viewers want to see their content. Viewers are demanding the same quality of production for live event broadcasts as they see in pre-recorded TV series and films. Producers of live content are looking to new, immersive and cinematic mobile camera views to better achieve these results. This presents a challenge to live production teams as these new camera views and angles must match the quality of the rest of the production -  the demand for mobility means that the cameras need to be wireless.
