General Description:

Housed in an industrial standard 19” chassis, PRO-1008 delivers high quality video, stereo audio and IR control to up to 8 users over CAT5e/6 cabling. Input connectors are standard RCA Phono sockets. Output connectors are RJ45 sockets for simple patching over existing infrastructure.

Installation is straightforward, typically taking less than a day to deliver television signals around a large commercial building with existing Cat5e/6 wiring infrastructure. Receivers that convert the signals back to standard video and audio outputs are available in two different formats: SCART, for simple connectivity to a television set and RCA Phono which allow connections to Plasma, Projector and other professional equipment.

Channel selection is either by means of a remote control IR handset used in conjunction with the receiver or via the user’s PC screen. The latter requires a PC running web server software connected to the PRO 1008 chassis via an RS232 port. The same PC allows the system administrator to bar or force channels at individual outputs.

Specification:

  •  Compact 19" x 1RU chassis design with integral power supply
  • 8 x Routed Infrared "Pass Through" ports for SAT,DVD and VCR control
  • RS232 Interface for external control
  • On Screen Display (OSD) for channel selection
  • Web Browser software
  • A choice of Scart and Phono receiver modules
  • Individual RJ45 Port protection
  • Up to 300m CAT5e/6 Cable

R3 Estudio Movel in Brazil equips OB van with Calrec Artemis for live music Posted: 23/10/2019
R3 Estudio Movel in Brazil equips OB van with Calrec Artemis for live music Såo Paulo-based R3 Estudio Movel has chosen a Calrec Artemis Ray audio console for its OB truck, called PowerTruck, focussing on the recording and mixing of audio for live broadcasts as well as music DVDs and streaming outlets.

Isaías Rosa, R3’s recording/mixing engineer and multi-Latin Grammy nominee, says that when assessing the audio console market, “the Artemis met all the requirements of our truck,” highlighting its versatility as a key quality that drew him to the console. “The truck is set up for mixing and recording music. The Artemis Ray has excellent sound quality; we use it in a 72-fader configuration, which is great for live music mixing as we have the faders set up on one layer,” he continued.

R3 Estudio Movel uses two WAVES cards, one Dante card and six MADI cards in the truck. The on-stage setup includes 128 mic pre-amps and two MADI cards. The company creates about 40 music DVDs a year – including one recently for Sony Music’s Brazilian funk artist Nego do Borel - plus its work on live broadcasts and streaming.

“This project is a great example of how the Artemis console can really spread its wings with different types of broadcasts, including live music. It’s a testament to its power, versatility and superior sound quality. We’re delighted that R3 Estudio Movel is reaping the benefits of all that the Artemis has to offer,” commented Mike Reddick, International Sales Manager, Calrec.

Shanxi Television in China purchases second Calrec Brio console for its new studio Posted: 16/10/2019
Shanxi Television in China purchases second Calrec Brio console for its new studio
China-based Shanxi Television has chosen a Calrec Brio36 audio console for its news programming and multi-purpose talk shows. The Brio is installed in a new studio, which was initially used for covering the China National Youth Games, held this August, with more than 10 hours of live broadcasting produced in the studio each day. This is the broadcaster’s second Brio installation with the first installed a year ago.

Mr. Wu Jie, Supervisor of the technical department of Shanxi Television, commented, “We have been very happy with our first Brio, which has proved to be intuitive to use, with great sound quality and stability. The last point is very important. The intuitive I/O connections and simple-to-use software and surface helped us save a lot of time during installation in this new studio and with the training, too.”

Shanxi Television is a network in the Taiyuan and Shanxi province that broadcasts in Jin Chinese. For the China National Youth Games, they received signals from multiple venues and the hosts and guests adding commentary and comment in the studio.

Mr. Wu Jie explains that they set up the new studio in 10 days, with five days of training, with the Brio’s clear design making it easy for operators to master quickly. Also, functions like swapping a fader on an individual strip, ALT-input, auto mixing and the fact that labelling channel strips is easy are also highlighted, along with the support Calrec partner RAC Pro provided throughout the process.

Later this year, Shanxi Television will be working with 4K content and they anticipate that the Brio’s 5.1 capabilities and expandability will make the use of 4K go smoothly.

Densitron and Sonifex announce audio and video display development collaboration
Densitron, a creator of HMI technologies, Broadcast intelligent display solutions, and a global leader in display, monitor, and embedded computing solutions and Sonifex, which manufactures broadcast audio equipment for radio, TV, and telecommunications, have announced a joint technical development initiative designed to tightly integrate Sonifex audio displays with a number of flagship Densitron reference monitors.

Densitron’s smartphone-like clarity and in-plane switching (IPS) technology is being modified to integrate with a new range of Sonifex devices soon to be unveiled.

However, Sonifex’s new Dante® AVN-CU2 and AVN-CU4 commentary units as well as its AVN multi-channel audio mix engines already now use Densitron colour LCD displays.

Sonifex CEO Marcus Brooke said, “We always actively seek opportunities to provide additional benefits to our customers and are particularly excited about sharing our latest audio interface and commentary unit developments with similar enhancements from Densitron. The integration of our respective technologies are significant value-adds to both product ranges.”

Making Metadata Work
Bruce Devlin - new I dare say that if you’re a keen reader of my column then you will be brushing up on your Dutch pronunciation and acclimatising yourself to mayonnaise on your chips rather than ketchup. If you’re really keen then you’ll also be making sure that you practise your Dutch jokes about the Flemish to ensure you don’t accidentally tell a Flemish joke about the Dutch at 2am on Sunday morning in a local bar somewhere near the red light district in Amsterdam.

Undercover Remote Production

It’s only taken 20 years and it seems that Remote Production is finally coming of age, but it now requires far more cameras than anyone envisaged back in the last century!

The move to remote production is one of the unstoppable trends of 2019 and moving into 2020. Our CamBall cameras pioneered remote working as early as 2003 with sport and wildlife programming using remote production for many years with incredible results.

The Future of Broadcast Connectivity
Jamie Adkin The use of KVM equipment has been essential to meet the evolving needs of the broadcast industry for many years. Over that time, many in the industry have recognised the importance of using IP-enabled KVM to break down technological barriers and enable real-time access to visuals wherever and whenever they’re needed. These components are vital parts in live production environments in particular.

To Remotely Go - TVFutures
Michael Parsons One of my biggest concerns as an academic responsible for the education of hundreds of students is the ‘appropriateness’ of much of the technology we purchase and implement within the curriculum. The last few years have seen tremendous change in all sorts of technologies, and the broadcast industry is just one sector that has seen some significant leaps in innovation.

Why MADI is Still Relevant
Stephen Brownsill While the original idea for MADI was to cater to a very narrow recording studio application, the standard remains a viable go-to multichannel audio technology. Beginning as a standard in 1991, MADI was first introduced to the world as digital production was beginning to come of age. MADI was put together in 1988 by Solid State Logic, AMS-Neve, Sony (DASH) and Mitsubishi (ProDigi) as a way to transport up to 56 channels of digital audio between large-format audio consoles of the day and digital multi-channel tape machines via 75-Ohm coaxial cables. Both tape-based machines have long since disappeared from the equipment landscape.

Original KVM or KVM over IP
Jochen Bauer Will the technology used in broadcasting solely consist of IP devices? For years, IP has been entering all areas of life. Especially control room applications as they are typically deployed in broadcasting benefit from the IP revolution in many ways. But an “IP-only broadcast world” is not yet here. Nevertheless, the trend clearly moves towards IP transmission, even though a large part of content production still uses traditional transmission paths. And therefore we continue to live in a hybrid world, using both original and IP-based technology. KVM experts Guntermann und Drunck still rely on both original KVM and KVM-over-IP™ to be able to offer their customers the best of both worlds.
