The Galaxy Sub-Rack is the foundation for achieving flexibility, high QoS and rack space savings.
The Galaxy Sub-Rack Concept is housed in a 3RU unit designed with a common power and communication interface to all inserted Scientific-Atlanta application modules. The big number of different available application modules can be configured to suit all kinds of needs for the operators and broadcaster due to the flexible concept and the ASI interconnections.
Application modules for the Galaxy Sub-Rack physically consist of an interfacing rear-card module and the application front-card module. The rear-connector module holds the connectors but otherwise is kept as simple as possible. All the complexity is on the hot swappable front-card module.

DVB Adds HDR Dynamic Mapping to Its Audiovisual Coding Specifications

DVB, an industry consortium that develops open interoperable technical specifications for the delivery of digital media and broadcast services, today announced a new revision to its specification for the use of video and audio coding in broadcast and broadband applications to include solutions for HDR Dynamic Mapping (DM). The solutions allow a receiver, such as a TV set, to adapt a High Dynamic Range video signal to the characteristics of the display. The revised specification was approved by the DVB Steering Board in Geneva on 3 July 2019.

Its smarter. Its safer. Its VO. Posted: 13/05/2019
Its smarter. Its safer. Its VO.
As streaming of premium video content over broadband IP networks has moved from niche to mainstream, there has been an explosion in the ways that pirates steal and redistribute valuable content for profitability purposes. Pirates used to be experts in DVB technology but now they are also experts of IP. Facing constantly renewing threats, operators have two options: they can either become skilled in the security business and build a new division dedicated to combatting piracy, or they can stay focused on their core video business and rely on an agile security company to fight piracy on their behalf.

MultiChoice Moves to Exceed Consumer Expectations with IP Platform from Imagine Communications

MultiChoice, the largest satellite broadcaster in Africa, is responding to rapidly growing customer demand for superior content by building a new playout centre. The new facility is the first stage of the broadcaster’s transformation from traditional video playout to leading-edge IP transport and modular playout technology, providing for greater business agility, technical and operational flexibility and a reduction in the total cost of ownership (TCO). This allows for an improved consumer experience and ensures faster speed to market with new broadcast offerings.

The Wireless Way to 4k
JP Delport DTC’s AEON group of products have been specifically designed for the 4K market. We encode with the more efficient HEVC algorithm, which means we are taking a 12G signal and compressing it to a bitrate that can be managed over an RF link. So what makes this a leading idea in the 4K revolution?

Trade shows and their role in the wired world
Richard Baker Historically trade shows afforded an opportunity to collect the latest brochures relevant to the visitor's chosen industry or career path. Today there seems little reason to store data of any kind, let alone paper brochures, when information is so easily accessible online. Brochure back-packing at exhibitions has become a rare sight, rarer still since the security clampdown on visitor luggage at exhibitions. Today's efficient show delegate need only carry a mobile phone and, in deference to tradition, a bundle of business cards. The phone doubles as a snapshot camera, video camera, dictaphone, email reader, internet browser, Skype communicator, and so on.

Artificial Intelligence and Economics
Dick Hobbs - new It’s May, so it seems inevitable that this month’s column should be a bit of a reflection on NAB. And it will, in due course. But first, some news which I think is interesting. Cisco, the IT giant, is selling off its video software solutions business. It is being bought by an as-yet unnamed new company, backed by venture capitalist Permira Funds.

Delivering on the 4k Promise
Lorna Garrett It’s happened. Consumers are demanding 4K UHD content. They have the TVs, smartphones, tablets and other devices they need, and with much of Netflix and Amazon original content in 4K, as well as sports coverage from BT and Sky, consumers have tasted the future of content quality and are hungry for more. But broadcasters need not worry if their customers have enough bandwidth to receive 4K content - the solutions are ready to make 4K distribution a reality. New viewers are waiting if you’re ready to get to them first.
