CRYSTAL VISION RELEASES FOUR VIDEO DELAYS THAT WORK WITH BOTH IP AND SDI Posted: 30/03/2020
CRYSTAL VISION RELEASES FOUR VIDEO DELAYS THAT WORK WITH BOTH IP AND SDI

Crystal Vision continues its commitment to being the leading video delay provider with the release of four variable video delays that can work with IP, with SDI or with both IP and SDI at the same time and provide up to 32 seconds of delay. Designed to match any equipment with a processing delay, Crystal Vision's latest video delays are software apps that run on the MARBLE-V1 media processor hardware and can easily be replaced if needs change. Broadcast engineers can choose a version with the features they need, selecting the required number of channels (single, dual or triple) and the required amount of delay (up to 100, 200, 400 or 800 frames). These are the industry's first video delays to offer IP connectivity (supporting both SMPTE ST 2022 and ST 2110 video over 10GbE IP networks), while for those working with SDI they introduce a 3G/HD/SD-capable video delay to the Vision frame system for the first time – with the easiest possible upgrade path to IP. The inclusion of IP to SDI and SDI to IP gateway functionality also makes them the ideal video delay for hybrid systems.

New SDI to Dante Embedder De-Embedder from Sonifex Posted: 18/03/2020
New SDI to Dante Embedder De-Embedder from Sonifex

Sonifex has added to its AVN range of products a world first - the AVN-DIO10 which is a 3G/HD/SD-SDI to Dante® Embedder/De-Embedder in a single product solution. This is a simple plug and play audio/video interface that provides a convenient and elegant method of connecting legacy 3G/HD/SD-SDI equipment to the Dante® AoIP audio network.

The AVN-DIO10 takes any SDI feed, de-embeds the 16 audio channels and places them on channels 1-16 of the Dante network, mapped using Dante Controller. It simultaneously takes the 16 input channels mapped to the device on Dante Controller and re-embeds them onto the SDI output, with an embed enable switch for each channel pair.

It has a single 3G/HD/SD-SDI input and a reclocked output, with dual redundant Primary and Secondary Dante network ports, using Neutrik EtherCon® Ethernet connectors and is powered by PoE. It is a fully Dante compliant and AES67 compatible device that uses Dante Controller for configuration and supports the full range of Dante sample rates.

Hitomi for near instant lip-sync alignment of mics and cameras Posted: 11/03/2020
Hitomi to host live demos showcasing their capabilities for near instant lip-sync alignment of mics and cameras at NAB.

Hitomi Broadcast, manufacturer of MatchBox, the industry’s leading audio video alignment toolbox, and the new MatchBox Glass app for near instant lip-sync alignment of mics and cameras, are leading solutions for live broadcast.

MatchBox is already used by broadcasters worldwide to ensure the timing of live sports, news and events and now, when teamed with the use of the free iOS App, Matchbox Glass, it enables quick and reliable camera line-up into truck, remote production facility or in newsgathering applications. To use, an iPhone or iPad is simply held up in shot running the Glass App. This allows the MatchBox analyser to instantly verify camera and mic timing alignment. Glass reduces a time consuming and error-prone process to a matter of seconds.

The MatchBox Analyser tool is typically situated in a master control room, studio or OB vehicle. It looks and listens for the specific Hitomi video and audio signatures produced by the hardware MatchBox Generator or MatchBox Glass App. The measurement performed by the analyser is very fast - just a few seconds - and highly effective, vastly speeding up the process and ultimately helping to eliminate the headaches and frustrations of last-minute lip-sync issues.

Hitomi Broadcast Director Russell Johnson said, “Synchronisation is often one of the last items on a field production checklist and can happen right up to going live or on-air. Often, it can be discovered too late that there are sync issues, which can be costly and, at the very least, embarrassing to resolve at the last second.”

DejaSoft introduces file sharing synchronisation tool DejaEdit for editors at NAB2020 Posted: 10/03/2020
DejaSoft introduces file sharing synchronisation tool DejaEdit for editors at NAB2020

IABM-member DejaSoft is delighted to present for the first time at NAB2020, its "must have" file sharing and synchronisation tool for editors – DejaEdit

DejaEdit is a revolutionary collaborative editing film tool. It offers editors working on Avid Nexis, Media Composer and EditShare workflows, across studios, production companies and post facilities, a vital application that ensures media files, bins and timelines are kept up to date across multiple remote edit stations.

DejaEdit has already successfully been tried and tested on real-world projects, and well-established in Scandinavia and parts of Europe. Following its global launch earlier this year, Swedish-based DejaSoft owners Nikolai Waldman and Clas Hakeröd, both accomplished Avid editors themselves, will be available to meet and demonstrate DejaEdit’s capabilities at NAB.

DejaEdit plays an essential role in increasing productivity. It allows editors to transfer media files and timelines automatically and securely to co-workers around the world, without having to be online continuously.

DejaEdit makes it possible to work with multiple remote Avid systems virtually anywhere on earth. With global warming issues , and people encouraged to minimise unnecessary travel, industry professionals can take advantage of DejaEdit’s powerful file synchronizing capabilities without restrictions.

MBC Produce the 2019 Indian Ocean Island Games Live with Bluefish444 IngeSTore Server and Avid Posted: 06/03/2020
USER STORY: MBC Produce the 2019 Indian Ocean Island Games Live with Bluefish444 IngeSTore Server and Avid

MBC was looking for a way to ingest live feeds of the 2019 Indian Ocean Island Games (IOIG) in Mauritius and approached Jasco to recommend and install a solution that could record material live from up to eight HD-SDI feeds. With MBC being a user of Avid products for over 10 years, including Avid NEXIS network storage and Avid Media Composer, the recording solution needed to integrate easily into their Avid-centric workflow.

Having integrated Bluefish444 products in the past, Jasco suggested MBC install Bluefish’s IngeSTore Server for their requirements.

“The Bluefish IngeSTore Server is an amazing piece of technology, so it was a simple choice to make when we had to propose an ingest solution,” said Jonathan Smith, Technical Manager of Jasco. “The ease when installing and integrating the server into existing infrastructure, and robust recording ability is what made all the difference. When you have no file corruption and no dropped frames on recordings, and no ingest fail during the whole IOIG event, the product speaks for itself. Definitely not the last Bluefish IngeSTore Server we will be installing.”

Bluefish444 are represented in UK/Europe by Polar Graphics Ltd

Live Streaming Workflows Examined
Bryce Button In today’s hyperconnected world, audiences expect accessible, high quality content across the displays they see every day, whether at home or on the go, at a concert or church service, or even in the board room. There are a number of approaches professionals can take to deliver live content, but each workflow ultimately varies depending upon the delivery platform and the type of display that it’s intended for. There is no one-size fits all approach.

Testing Hybrid Workflows
Martin Mulligan With the industry’s steady migration from traditional HD-SDI to IP and/or 12G-SDI infrastructures, broadcasters are now faced with the significant challenge of having to manage and monitor a wide array of new signal types in order to provide properly managed workflows. The switch away from HD-SDI is not happening overnight and, indeed, is happening at different speeds in different parts of the world. Due to this rapidly evolving technology landscape, reliable and versatile test and measurement (T&M) solutions have never been more important.

Why MADI is Still Relevant
Stephen Brownsill While the original idea for MADI was to cater to a very narrow recording studio application, the standard remains a viable go-to multichannel audio technology. Beginning as a standard in 1991, MADI was first introduced to the world as digital production was beginning to come of age. MADI was put together in 1988 by Solid State Logic, AMS-Neve, Sony (DASH) and Mitsubishi (ProDigi) as a way to transport up to 56 channels of digital audio between large-format audio consoles of the day and digital multi-channel tape machines via 75-Ohm coaxial cables. Both tape-based machines have long since disappeared from the equipment landscape.

Review: JVC GY-HC900 Camera
Andy McKenzie JVC has a long history of developing relatively low price-point equipment, dating right back to its success in the 1970s with the VHS tape format. JVC products sometimes impact the broadcast mainstream but generally find greatest success in niche market segments such as news production where price and portability take priority over the no-comprise quality and robustness demanded by the leading studio-based and OB content producers.
