New English language channel launches in India with Cinegy Air PRO

Travelxp, one of the world’s leading travel channel brands based in Mumbai, India, has implemented Cinegy Air PRO, a highly optimized playout automation solution, to launch a new English language channel.

Sold and installed by Cinegy’s regional partner, New Delhi-based Setron India, Cinegy Air PRO is a software-based system for HD and UHD 4K playout automation that uses standard IT server hardware and certified SDI video cards.

Cinegy Managing Director Daniella Weigner said, “Travelxp is a leader in technical advances, offering the best to its viewers in its latest venture. The advantage of Cinegy Air PRO is that it can easily run multiple HD and/or UHD 4K channels, which is precisely what they wanted. What’s more, multiple instances of Cinegy Air PRO can run on a single machine. Playout channels can also be configured to stream programs live with no need for additional hardware or software.”

Setron India Director Arjun Dhawan said, “Cinegy software is stable and easy to use, offering a simplified workflow and more modern technology than the existing system Travelxp had been using. What’s more, the use of Cinegy delivered uptime statistics that delighted the operations staff.”

ATG Danmon Equips and Integrates 4K-Capable Video Production and Live Streaming Facility for the Venue Group Posted: 28/10/2020
ATG Danmon Equips and Integrates 4K-Capable Video Production and Live Streaming Facility for the Venue Group

ATG Danmon announces the completion of a 4K television production and live streaming facility at the Lafayette London events centre. Commissioned by the Venue Group, the new system allows for live relay of stage performances as well as studio-style recording. It includes robotic cameras, an audio/video production control room and a floor-to-ceiling rack of auxiliary equipment.

"ATG Danmon was recommended to us by Universal Music Group which occupies most of the building," comments Chris Pollard, Lafayette's Head of Production. "A crucial challenge was how to accommodate a complete control room in the limited amount of space available above and behind the stage. Another was the need to minimise any obstruction of stage performances when viewed from the 600 capacity auditorium. ATG came up with a versatile and future-proof solution which enables the operators to capture full broadcast quality 4K video from multiple positions, including the ability to zoom in from wide angle to very tight close-up. The system allows us to stream live productions with or without a studio audience."

Custom Consoles MediaWall Goes Live at BBC Studioworks

Custom Consoles announces the completion of a 5 metres wide by 3 metres high MediaWall for BBC Studioworks in Elstree, Hertfordshire. The new structure is installed in the production control gallery used for the supervision of programmes from the George Lucas Stage.

BBC Studioworks operates a complete gallery suite assigned to the George Lucas Stages at Elstree Studios, supporting large-scale TV productions. The galleries have direct access to Stages 1 and 2 and have hosted shows such as Strictly Come Dancing, The Voice, and A League of Their Own. George Lucas used Stages 1 and 2 during the filming of the 'Star Wars' trilogy. Fully soundproofed, the stage is 1,465 square metres in area and 15 metres high.

Located in front of the production control desk, the MediaWall spans almost the full width of the gallery's front wall and supports 44 video monitors plus their associated under-monitor displays. A studio clock display and speakers are also attached. Four storage cabinets are positioned at floor level, accommodating power and signal distribution equipment.

"Introduced in 2006, MediaWall continues to be in strong demand among broadcasters, production studios and playout service providers around the world," comments Custom Consoles Sales Manager Gary Fuller. "

Bright Spark Studios introduce remote contributors with Quicklink Studio Posted: 26/10/2020
Bright Spark Studios introduce remote contributors with Quicklink Studio

Bright Spark Studios, a video production and live streaming company, have adopted the Quicklink Studio solution for introducing remote contributors into virtual events.

Due to COVID-19, live events have been abruptly paused with many organisers deciding to take their events online. Bright Spark Studios made the decision to invest in Quicklink Studio solutions to have the ability to offer remote contributions for inclusion in remote, virtual events.

ONE Event is a Christian festival which was due to run from 27th-31st of August. Due to the UK restrictions around COVID-19, the physical event could not take place, however event organisers were determined to still deliver the event in a virtual manner. As a result, Bright Spark Studios were enlisted as part of the small socially distanced production crew to provide the remote contributions using the Quicklink Studio solutions.

“Eight contributors from the UK, Spain and US were able to connect with the programme using the Quicklink Studio. Initially, it was planned that only 1 remote guest (keynote) would connect using the Quicklink solutions. However, due to the quality and ease of use ultimately, all guests to the programme were connected by Quicklink”  explained Andrew Deptford of Bright Spark Studios.

TVFutures My Dive in to Learning
Lucy Crow In 2014 I had my first taste of underwater diving. I was on a family holiday and I happened across the experience of a lifetime. Within the first few minutes of that adventure I had decided that I wanted to be part of the diving world going forward. After countless dives and extensive training to become a scuba diving instructor, I made the decision to attend university. I knew that whatever I was going to study, I wanted it to involve my passion for Scuba.

Virtualising your Playout
Alison Pavitt

The Business Case for Hybrid TV and AI
Oliver Botti Video on demand (VOD) and OTT live services have come a long way since their introduction and, rather than solely competing with traditional broadcasting, they are becoming more important than ever in helping to keep broadcast TV networks popular, in particular when combining TV broadcasting with online TV into Hybrid TV models, thanks to convergence standards such as HbbTV and Atsc3.0. In the UK, the average weekly OTT viewing minutes shot up from 60 in July 2015 to 152 in September 2018. Meanwhile, OTT TV and video revenues are expected to reach $6.8 billion by 2023 in the UK and $61 billion in the US.

Control, as easy as pressing a button
Bazile Peter

A fundamental issue with control surfaces in modern broadcast operations is that they are, for the most part, old fashioned.

The ease, responsiveness, and functionality of touchscreens, especially in Smartphones are now commonplace. Attributes that are largely absent from touchscreens are typically buttons, sliders, and dials found on many control devices associated with human machine interaction.

The Importance of Audio Production Systems
Tom Knowles Large-scale entertainment programming presents a unique set of challenges for broadcasters. Often extremely high-profile keystones of a broadcaster’s schedule and increasingly billed as live ‘event television’, as well as delivering the very best audio quality they demand a huge degree of flexibility and agility in terms of their production. With music being such a core component of their appeal to growing audiences, in both linear broadcast and online, nowhere is that more important than their audio production systems.

How to engage students with live projects
Martin Andrews For many employers, how and what we teach at university is sometimes considered to be very mysterious. The responsibility for creating the structure and content within the curriculum is the responsibility of academics. In my experience, the best method for making sure that students and staff are kept up to date with current working practices is to regularly engage with ‘Live’ projects and ‘Real’ clients.
