CJP Broadcast Announces New Addition to its Engineering Team

Multimedia systems integrator, equipment specialist and service provider CJP Broadcast announces a new addition to its engineering staff with the appointment of Joseph Franklin. A BSc (1st class Hons) graduate in television production technology, he will be active with CJP colleagues across a variety of projects.

"Joe is a very bright and enthusiastic broadcast engineer with proven talent at the cutting edge of robotic camera system development," comments CJP Broadcast founder and MD Chris Phillips. "His initial role will be in supporting our live video production activity which has expanded rapidly in recent months. As he gains experience, he will progress into wider areas of system integration and technical support."

"CJP Broadcast is a very welcoming and friendly team with an evident passion for media technology," Joe Franklin adds. "The company has achieved evident success in the established broadcast market as well as encouraging the wider application of video production and distribution. In the sports area alone, CJP offers practical and efficient ways to reach tightly targeted viewer groups quickly and affordably. The prospect of assisting with the company's sports production activity is highly motivating before moving on to the systems integration challenges of round-the-clock terrestrial and satellite broadcasting."

PSI Broadcasting Invests in its 19th PlayBox Neo TV CIAB Playout Server Posted: 23/11/2020
PSI Broadcasting Invests in its 19th PlayBox Neo TV CIAB Playout Server

PlayBox Neo (www.playboxneo.com) announces the completion of an AirBox Neo-20 Channel-in-a-Box TV playout system for PSI Broadcasting, one of Thailand's leading suppliers of broadcast playout facilities. It will be assigned to tvN Thai which PSI transmits on behalf of Korean partner CJ ENM.

"AirBox Neo-20 server-based systems are the trusted and proven core of the service we provide to our various clients," comments Rattana Taipong PSI Broadcasting Technical Manager. "The new addition, joining the 18 AirBox Neo systems we already have here, allows us to supplement the tvN Thai channel with full backup redundancy including automatic switchover between primary and secondary feeds. This N+1 configuration is an added level of operational security we recommend for all broadcast TV channels provided the customer accepts the relatively low cost overhead."

"Our scheduling and playout staff find the PlayBox Neo control interface very user friendly, allowing them to handle the entire channel management process quickly and easily. AirBox Neo-20 also scores well from a technical viewpoint, being straightforward to install and highly reliable. tvN Thai currently transmits in 1080i HD but the ability to deliver UHD, HD and SD from a single AirBox Neo-20 server is also a major asset."

Magewell 4K NDI Encoders Win 2020 Streaming Media Readers and rsquo; Choice Award

Magewell’s 4K Pro Convert NDI® encoders have been chosen by online video professionals as winners of a 2020 Streaming Media Readers' Choice Award. The low-latency converters, which enable users to easily bring traditional HDMI or SDI video signals into IP-based media workflows, were honored in the ‘Hardware Input Devices for Live Production’ category.

Magewell’s intuitive Ultra Stream live streaming encoders were also recognized in this year’s Readers’ Choice Awards as a runner-up in the ‘Single or Dual-Stream Encoding Appliances’ category.

Leveraging NewTek’s NDI technology, Pro Convert encoders seamlessly connect users’ existing equipment investments into IP-based production, remote contribution, and distribution workflows. Two compact Pro Convert encoder models ingest 4K Ultra HD signals at full 60 fps and encode them to full NDI streams. The Pro Convert HDMI 4K Plus features an HDMI 2.0 input interface, while the Pro Convert 12G SDI Plus brings in 4K content via single-link, 12Gbps SDI.

CLASS Is Remote Cloud Working the New Norm
Bruce Devlin - new The Tuk-tuk driver has just dropped us off at the hotel in Jaipur. The guard has let us through the gates, past the dogs and the obligatory cow rummaging in the garbage. We wash our hands, head for the bar and before the first Kingfisher beer arrives, I am connected to the virtual Mr MXF compute kingdom where a million unread emails, Slack messages, requests for help with broken workflows and rejected files are waiting on a collection of virtual servers somewhere in cloud-land.

How to engage students with live projects
Martin Andrews For many employers, how and what we teach at university is sometimes considered to be very mysterious. The responsibility for creating the structure and content within the curriculum is the responsibility of academics. In my experience, the best method for making sure that students and staff are kept up to date with current working practices is to regularly engage with ‘Live’ projects and ‘Real’ clients.

TVFutures My Dive in to Learning
Lucy Crow In 2014 I had my first taste of underwater diving. I was on a family holiday and I happened across the experience of a lifetime. Within the first few minutes of that adventure I had decided that I wanted to be part of the diving world going forward. After countless dives and extensive training to become a scuba diving instructor, I made the decision to attend university. I knew that whatever I was going to study, I wanted it to involve my passion for Scuba.

The Importance of Audio Production Systems
Tom Knowles Large-scale entertainment programming presents a unique set of challenges for broadcasters. Often extremely high-profile keystones of a broadcaster’s schedule and increasingly billed as live ‘event television’, as well as delivering the very best audio quality they demand a huge degree of flexibility and agility in terms of their production. With music being such a core component of their appeal to growing audiences, in both linear broadcast and online, nowhere is that more important than their audio production systems.

The Business Case for Hybrid TV and AI
Oliver Botti Video on demand (VOD) and OTT live services have come a long way since their introduction and, rather than solely competing with traditional broadcasting, they are becoming more important than ever in helping to keep broadcast TV networks popular, in particular when combining TV broadcasting with online TV into Hybrid TV models, thanks to convergence standards such as HbbTV and Atsc3.0. In the UK, the average weekly OTT viewing minutes shot up from 60 in July 2015 to 152 in September 2018. Meanwhile, OTT TV and video revenues are expected to reach $6.8 billion by 2023 in the UK and $61 billion in the US.
