Sony HDC-1500 Camera Channel

Sony HDC-1500 Camera Channel

Sony HDC-1500 Camera Channel Complete with HDCU-1000 & Remote RCP920

The HDC-1500 camera provides digital transmission using SMPTE standard fibre optic cable to transmit high-quality digital data over long distances. The camera also provides two HD SDI outputs and one digitally down-converted SDI or analogue composite output. In addition, viewfinder signals with characters can be output from the SDI output connector, giving camera operators additional convenience. Furthermore, when in 24P operation, the built-in 2-3 pull-down function of the HDC-1500 enables 60i down-converted SD signals to be output on a standard SD monitor – a capability that also minimises the flicker that generally occurs on the viewfinder.

New CCD and DSP provides even greater picture performance

The use of a new, state-of-the-art CCD sensor ensures high quality images even at low light level. The high sensitivity of F10 at 2000 lux, together with a signal-to-noise ratio of 54 dB combine to deliver unprecedented picture quality.

Multi-format operation ensures camera can accommodate all current and proposed HD formats

The HDC-1500 can operate in a wide variety of capturing modes, including 1080 50/60i, 1080 24/25/30P. Furthermore, the CCD can capture 1080 50/60P images, which can be down sampled to deliver the highest quality 720 50/60P pictures.

Ergonomic Design

The design of the HDC-1500 is based on over two decades of Sony experience in manufacturing broadcast video cameras and camcorders, and provides a high level of operability. All control switches and connectors are in the most logical places and are positioned for optimum functionality and ease of use. The HDC-1500’s low centre of gravity design allows the operator to carry the camera comfortably on the shoulder. In addition, the shoulder pad of the HDC-1500 can be adjusted either forwards or backwards without using a screwdriver, so the camera can easily be moved to a well-balanced position.

Built-in down-convertor in the camera head for stand-alone use

The camera provides two HD SDI outputs and one digitally down-converted SDI or analogue composite output. In addition, viewfinder signals with characters can be output from the SDI output connector, giving camera operators additional convenience. Furthermore, when using 24P operation, the built-in 2-3 pull-down function of the HDC-1500 enables 60i down-converted SD signals to be output on a standard SD monitor —a capability that also minimises the flickers that generally occur on the viewfinder.

New large lens adaptor design with one-touch, cable-free docking

The HDLA-1500 large lens adaptor includes a unique mechanism which allows the HDC-1500 to be quickly and easily attached and detached without removing the large lens. No additional cable connections are fucknecessary between the camera and adaptor, thanks to a novel “hot shoe” system.

Transparent digital fibre optic transmission

The HDC-1500 provides a fully digital transmission link to the base station. Using SMPTE standard hybrid fibre/copper cable, this allows completely transparent transmission of full bandwidth video and audio signals over cable length of up to 3000 metres. This ensures optimum quality HD signals can be delivered into any production environment.

Sony VENICE brings Downton Abbey splendour to the big screen Posted: 05/11/2019
Sony VENICE brings and lsquo;Downton Abbey and rsquo; splendour to the big screen

Sony has announced that its next-generation motion picture camera system, VENICE, was used for principal photography on the new ‘Downton Abbey’ movie, directed by Michael Engler, and produced by Gareth Neame and Liz Trubridge.

With its forward-thinking full frame sensor, impressive colour science and user-friendly operation, VENICE was chosen by Director of Photography (DOP) Ben Smithard to scale the TV series’ drama onto the big screen through impressive picture quality and greater detail.    Real emotion in every frame “VENICE was the only camera system that could deliver a larger and more detailed image to match the movie’s enthralling storyline on the big screen,” explained Ben Smithard. “When it came to shoot challenging frames for the film, the VENICE never let me down. It performed well without any issues, wherever it was put – from being rigged on camera dollies, tower cams, cranes and even helicopters.”

VENICE, the versatile next-generation full frame motion picture camera, has been created for and with modern cinematographers in mind. It allows creatives to capture stunning visuals in almost any format, including full frame 24x26mm, Super35 and Anamorphic, with a maximum resolution of 6048 x 4032. At the same time, its usability, reliability and flexibility allow it to seamlessly match any filmmakers’ shooting requirements and support them in bringing their creative vision to life.

Marshall Electronics Introduces Two New IP (H.265) Cameras with 30X Optical Zoom

Marshall Electronics, a leading provider of cameras, monitors, and accessories for professional broadcast video and A/V applications, introduces a new line of 8.5 Megapixel IP Cameras with smooth 30x Optical Zoom and triple-stream H.265/H.264/MJPEG capabilities.

The CV420-30X-IP model delivers up to UHD (3840x2160p) resolution at 60fps through simultaneous HDMI and IP streams, while the CV355-30X-IP delivers up to HD (1920x1080p) resolution at 60fps through 3G/HD-SDI (BNC), IP and HDMI. Both models start with a high performance Sony 8.5 Megapixel 1/2.5” sensor and 30x optical zoom block, providing flexible integration in networked HD and UHD workflows where image quality, reliability and versatility are of utmost concern. Bannister Lake Delivers Cross-Platform and Innovative Graphic Solutions for Canadian Federal Election Coverage Posted: 01/11/2019
Bannister Lake Delivers Cross-Platform and Innovative Graphic Solutions for Canadian Federal Election Coverage

Bannister Lake played an essential role in providing Canadian broadcast and online audiences with live election results during the Oct. 21 national election. In addition to providing the editorial tools to producers, Bannister Lake enabled decision desks and graphic operators to identify key races, declare winners, and organize graphic playlists. The company also devised and implemented on-set touchscreen mapping widgets and social-media solutions.

This marks the 18th time Corus Entertainment's Global Television Network has used Bannister Lake solutions to drive election coverage. Elector software was used to aggregate and manage election results and populate graphics that were rendered by four different engines: HTML5, Avid/Orad, Ross XPression, and Vizrt. This provided Global Television with multiple options to visualize election results and present them in exciting new ways. Graphics appeared as full frame, as part of the broadcast's unique video wall, as regional L-bars, as augmented reality elements, and as online winner cards that were tweeted out.

The broadcast's touch-enabled HTML5-based widgets proved to be a distinctive storytelling device. The solution allowed hosts to blend real-time data with demographics information on electoral district maps and walk viewers through trends and analysis. Since the solution was built entirely in HTML5, editorial and cosmetic changes could be executed quickly without reliance on other hardware or software systems.

"Having Bannister Lake data available on various endpoints meant we had maximum flexibility to tell the election night story," said Gerry Belec, director news technology and operations, Global News. "Once again Bannister Lake ensured that both our editorial and production teams had the data and the tools to execute a great election night broadcast."

PlayBox Neo Channel-in-a-Box Powers New Thai University HDTV Channel

Rajamangala University of Technology (RMUT) in Thailand has chosen a Neo-19 series Channel-in-a-Box playout system as the heart of a new online TV channel. Creating A Signature Look With Lighting
William Hellmuth As an LA-based DP, I view my role as a narrative storyteller. For me, cinematography is not just about getting some nice images – it’s about telling truths. I love being able to weave a story with imagery and capture something that’s real, whether through performance or visual symbolism. Lighting is one of my most important mechanisms for capturing those moments of truth.

Never Stop Learning....Or Spending
Peter Heaven I’m over 75, and have been a member of the Bristol Film and Video Society (www.bristolvideo.org.uk) for several decades. Like the great majority of members, I am not and never have been a video professional but have video interests beyond the club and its productions. For some time I have been recording lectures (for other clubs) using a Panasonic HDC-HS100, a lovely little hand-held camera recording Full-HD 1920x1080i which has given very good service. But it has a 3.5mm jack for an external mic and this proved limiting, so I looked for a small mic mixer.

Live Streaming Workflows Examined
Bryce Button In today’s hyperconnected world, audiences expect accessible, high quality content across the displays they see every day, whether at home or on the go, at a concert or church service, or even in the board room. There are a number of approaches professionals can take to deliver live content, but each workflow ultimately varies depending upon the delivery platform and the type of display that it’s intended for. There is no one-size fits all approach.

IBC 2019 A Whistle Stop Rundown
Ben Sherriff I’ve been to IBC once before, taking to the floor with Simon, Matt, Jon and the rest of the KitPlus team to assist with the filming of interviews. This was a lot of fun, but it was hard to find the time to look at the kit I wanted to see. This year with the demise of BVE and unable to make it to the Media Production Show I decided to fork out for a ‘research’ trip to IBC. In the spirit of full disclosure, I ought to note that I have two small children and a very busy work schedule, so the trip had nothing to do with escaping for a weekend of uninterrupted sleep and meal times (honest). Due to these commitments I could only manage one full day and a few hours the next day at the show so it was a lot to cram in trying to see everything I wanted to see!

I never really knew where I wanted to go career wise, but I knew I always liked video production. So it will come as no surprise that I chose a degree that would provide that outlet, and I hoped that dedicating three Years to studying BSc Television and Broadcasting at the University of Portsmouth would turn my fantasy career, into reality.
