Dejero Launches EnGo 265 Mobile Transmitter to Provide Next-Level Reliability for Newsgathering and Live Broadcasts Posted: 02/12/2021
Dejero Launches EnGo 265 Mobile Transmitter to Provide Next-Level Reliability for Newsgathering and Live Broadcasts

Dejero is launching its new EnGo 265 mobile transmitter for news teams and live events broadcasters that need resilient connectivity to quickly go live from any location. Reliable, simple to use, and built tough for field use, EnGo 265 will replace the industry-renowned EnGo 260 and introduce new features targeting the broadcast and media market. The new model bolsters security and provides even lower latency than the EnGo 260 at just 0.5 seconds over bonded cellular connections. It also features a new ‘GateWay mode’ for wireless broadband internet connectivity and a modified backpack with a wired remote.

Like its predecessor, the EnGo 265 uses Dejero’s award-winning Smart Blending Technology to combine multiple network connections to transmit broadcast-quality live video while intelligently managing the fluctuating bandwidth, packet loss, and latency differences of the individual connections in real-time.

The mobile transmitter also features high-efficiency antennas and world-class RF design to ensure ultra-reliable cellular reception in poor coverage and crowded areas, and while on the go.

To meet the increased market demand for security, Dejero has taken steps to further protect video streams. In addition to AES256 encryption, the EnGo 265 includes a security-hardened Linux OS and a cryptoprocessor to authenticate the hardware.

The new ‘GateWay mode’ provides wireless broadband internet connectivity in the field to enable mobile teams to reliably, securely and quickly transfer large files, access MAM and newsroom systems, and publish content to social media. The GateWay mode also provides general internet access to resources for field research, access to cloud-based services and also serves as a high-bandwidth access point for devices.

“Newsgatherers depend on backpack transmitters to tell stories from the field – there is no second chance when broadcasting live, so transmission reliability is paramount,” said Yvonne Monterroso, director of product management at Dejero. “Building on Dejero’s legacy and commitment to reliability, EnGo 265 not only delivers dependable live transmissions, but also offers dependable wireless broadband connectivity to the internet to help mobile news and live production teams work more efficiently in the field.”

Providing the reliability and throughput of a fixed line connection while operating in a scenario demanding wireless connectivity, GateWay mode combines live transmission and internet gateway capabilities into a single device. It aggregates available networks to maximize reliability and increase bandwidth, resulting in improved productivity of field crews by allowing them to do more on the go. In most newsgathering and remote production scenarios, this involves bonding cellular connections from multiple carriers, with the option to also tap into satellite connectivity when needed.

A significant algorithm enhancement which further improves reliability in challenging environments also enables glass-to-glass latency as low as 0.5 seconds over bonded cellular connections. This allows a more natural discussion between a studio presenter and field reporter during talkbacks for an enhanced viewer experience. Other solutions require a wired connection to achieve sub-second latency.

With its integrated global modems, user-accessible SIMs, and an internal battery that’s aircraft carry-on compliant, the EnGo 265 is ideal for domestic and international travel. When used with Dejero’s Vehicle Antenna Dock, the EnGo 265 can be securely mounted into vehicles and attached to external antennas to boost reception.

For convenience, a wired remote now attaches to the modified EnGo transmitter backpack so that camera operators can easily start and stop live streams, and monitor status.

Creative Solutions Supports and ldquo;Made In Her Image and rdquo; Posted: 30/11/2021
Creative Solutions Supports and ldquo;Made In Her Image and rdquo;

Creative Solutions, which includes SmallHD, Teradek, Wooden Camera, and Lightstream, is collaborating with Made in Her Image, a nonprofit movement dedicated to advancing young women, girls, and non-binary youth of color in film, media, and technology. The CS initiative, "Their Point of View," includes a Cinematography Workshop, Mentorship Lab, and Giving Tuesday events—all aimed at enabling new voices to tell their stories.

The events kicked off with an online cinematography course taught by filmmaker and USC School of Cinematic Arts instructor Savannah Bloch. “We started with the basics to set a good foundation. “I adapted my USC lessons because not everyone gets to go to film school.” Student Ebonee Marrow called Savanah’s class, “Amazing” emphasizing that Bloch’s insights and opinions were invaluable. Fellow student Asuka Lin concurred, “Savannah broke down aspects of cinematography skills in an open-minded step-by-step, super-informative way that was very accessible.”

The next activity was the Mentorship Lab. On November 13, Creative Solutions’ Community Team welcomed the Made In Her Image founders, instructors, and eighteen aspiring filmmakers from teens to twenties to their Burbank showroom. The goal? Educate, inspire, and build confidence in a safe and inclusive environment.

Adventurer Filmmaker Renan Ozturk Takes Teradek RT to Costa Rica

Some of the world’s most spectacular views are best seen from halfway up a wall of rock. That’s a place where gear has to be reliable, whether it’s crucial safety equipment or the cameras that let the rest of us experience the same dizzying panorama. It’s also a familiar situation to alpinist Renan Ozturk, whose experience includes some of the steepest climbing challenges on the planet as well as documentary filmmaking and photojournalism covering everything from the freezing Himalayas to the African deserts of Chad.

Meeting the specification
Chris Smeeton

A good technical specification will detail precisely what is required, from the equipment to the cables connecting it. Many specifications will give  particular manufacturers and model numbers. On many occasions, this makes tendering simple and gives vendors a secure and fair way to bid.

HOLLYLAND LARK 150 Review
Phil Vinter

The exponential growth of video supercharged a technological revolution that began in the early noughties with the advent of DSLR cameras.
The cinematic-style shallow depth of field image video quality from DSLRs was a revelation, but, back then audio was the big drawback. As demand has grown so the technology has improved and today’s one-man-band small rig set ups can capture pretty good sound into a DSLR style camera.

Phil Vinter reviews the latest release from HOLLYLAND and it's a thumbs up from us.
