Avid and QSR Systems Strike 10-Year Subscription Agreement for Creative Tools Upgrade and Expansion for Leading Supplier to Hollywood and rsquo;s Production Community Posted: 22/09/2020
Avid and QSR Systems Strike 10-Year Subscription Agreement for Creative Tools Upgrade and Expansion for Leading Supplier to Hollywood and rsquo;s Production Community

One of Hollywood’s top providers of post-production technology rentals, QSR Systems, has entered a 10-year software subscription agreement with Avid® (NASDAQ: AVID) to dramatically expand its ability to readily supply creative tools to its film and broadcast clients. QSR Systems’ new long-term subscription agreement doubles the company’s available pool of Media Composer editing system licenses, available either on-premises or in the cloud. One of Avid’s top resellers, MelroseMAC, was instrumental in establishing this new agreement.

QSR Systems and Avid have been closely partnered for more than 15 years. This new agreement effectively transforms their ongoing collaboration in order to better support the creative community’s rapidly evolving content creation workflow needs. In addition to leveraging Avid creative tools, QSR’s data management practice delivers full-service content storage and asset management based on Avid hardware and software solutions for short-term production projects as well as long-term secure archiving.

“Today more than ever, studios and broadcasters need fast access to highly cost-conscious and flexible solutions through close partners that are ready to change how they’re collaborating to help keep production commitments on track,” said Tom Cordiner, Chief Revenue Officer, Avid.

AWS debuts Cloud Digital Interface (AWS CDI) to reliably transport uncompressed live video between applications Posted: 17/09/2020
AWS debuts Cloud Digital Interface (AWS CDI) to reliably transport uncompressed live video between applications
Today AWS unveiled the AWS Cloud Digital Interface (AWS CDI), a new network technology that allows Independent Software Vendors (ISVs) and AWS Partners to build reliable, live video applications that can connect products and services within the AWS Cloud. Workloads that require high-performance connectivity and uncompressed live video transport have been historically deployed on-premises using standards such as Serial Digital Interface (SDI) or other dedicated network IP infrastructure. This has prevented these workflows from taking advantage of the agility and scalability of the AWS Cloud. Now, with AWS CDI customers can deploy live video solutions, such as TV channel playout, motion graphic insertion, multi-viewer applications, live video production switching, video frame rate and color space conversion, forensic watermarking and video encoding/decoding. AWS CDI enables the deployment of these live video solutions in the AWS Cloud by giving customers access to high-performance networking and defining an interoperable audio, video, and metadata (AVM) schema that facilitates reliable communication between various vendor applications. Designed to integrate into any application, the AWS CDI SDK can be downloaded here: https://github.com/aws/aws-cdi-sdk.

Dejero Transforms KNSD-TV and KUAN-LD and rsquo;s Mobile Broadcast Truck into Mobile TV Station

Dejero has made it possible for broadcasters NBC San Diego, KNSD-TV and KUAN-LD, to turn its new mobile broadcast truck into a self-contained, end-to-end mobile TV studio. The Dejero equipment on board the truck — including the Dejero GateWay M6E6 network aggregation device, PathWay E encoder, and a WayPoint 104 receiver — gives KNSD-TV and KUAN-LD the bandwidth to work fully independently in the field, processing, editing and distributing live raw video without reliance on teams and equipment located back at the broadcast facility. The truck, which was built by Emmy award-winning truck builder and mobile integrator, Accelerated Media Technologies, (AMT), is able to act as a backup station in case the main broadcast facility needs to be evacuated, a scenario that could have happened during the recent COVID-19 pandemic.

The Importance of Audio Production Systems
Tom Knowles Large-scale entertainment programming presents a unique set of challenges for broadcasters. Often extremely high-profile keystones of a broadcaster’s schedule and increasingly billed as live ‘event television’, as well as delivering the very best audio quality they demand a huge degree of flexibility and agility in terms of their production. With music being such a core component of their appeal to growing audiences, in both linear broadcast and online, nowhere is that more important than their audio production systems.

TVFutures My Dive in to Learning
Lucy Crow In 2014 I had my first taste of underwater diving. I was on a family holiday and I happened across the experience of a lifetime. Within the first few minutes of that adventure I had decided that I wanted to be part of the diving world going forward. After countless dives and extensive training to become a scuba diving instructor, I made the decision to attend university. I knew that whatever I was going to study, I wanted it to involve my passion for Scuba.

The Business Case for Hybrid TV and AI
Oliver Botti Video on demand (VOD) and OTT live services have come a long way since their introduction and, rather than solely competing with traditional broadcasting, they are becoming more important than ever in helping to keep broadcast TV networks popular, in particular when combining TV broadcasting with online TV into Hybrid TV models, thanks to convergence standards such as HbbTV and Atsc3.0. In the UK, the average weekly OTT viewing minutes shot up from 60 in July 2015 to 152 in September 2018. Meanwhile, OTT TV and video revenues are expected to reach $6.8 billion by 2023 in the UK and $61 billion in the US.

How to engage students with live projects
Martin Andrews For many employers, how and what we teach at university is sometimes considered to be very mysterious. The responsibility for creating the structure and content within the curriculum is the responsibility of academics. In my experience, the best method for making sure that students and staff are kept up to date with current working practices is to regularly engage with ‘Live’ projects and ‘Real’ clients.

Control, as easy as pressing a button
Bazile Peter

A fundamental issue with control surfaces in modern broadcast operations is that they are, for the most part, old fashioned.

The ease, responsiveness, and functionality of touchscreens, especially in Smartphones are now commonplace. Attributes that are largely absent from touchscreens are typically buttons, sliders, and dials found on many control devices associated with human machine interaction.
