IPV CuratorNow powers remote video production for Trailer Park Group Posted: 01/04/2020
IPV and rsquo;s CuratorNow powers remote video production for Trailer Park Group

Trailer Park Group, the award-winning global entertainment marketing company, which counts many of the world’s most prestigious and successful companies, brands, media properties and film franchises among its clients, is the newest customer of IPV and will be using its latest release—CuratorNow—to allow their editors and producers to continue to produce video from home. IPV is delighted to welcome them aboard.

As global events force a change in the way people have to work, CuratorNow gives Trailer Park Group the functionality they need to seamlessly continue to produce secure, high-level content for their clients at full capacity from home.

IPV CEO Mark Fagan said, “As the world headed into temporary lockdown, Trailer Park Group realised that they needed a robust solution to enable their editorial team to continue to deliver new material for their clients under these unprecedented circumstances.

“The nature of their work required a rapid deployment solution that would both scale to meet their urgent needs but also give major studios the assurance that their content was secure even in the current, highly disruptive environment.”

Trailer Park Group CEO, Rick Eiserman, said, “Video editing brings a unique set of challenges to working from home so finding a robust, cloud editing solution was absolutely critical for Trailer Park Group. With over 300 creatives working on projects for the world’s top media and entertainment clients, we required a state-of-the-art product that both we and our clients can trust.

LiveU Remote At-Home Production Helps Tencent Bring Speed Skating Race Live to Viewers in China Posted: 31/03/2020
LiveU Remote At-Home Production Helps Tencent Bring Speed Skating Race Live to Viewers in China

Following the International Skating Union (ISU)’s postponement of the 2020 World Short Track Speed Skating Championships in South Korea, the China Short Track Speed Skating team decided to go ahead and organize a ‘Simulation Game of the ISU Championships’ in Beijing. Tencent Sports, the main broadcaster responsible for the live production and public broadcast, turned to LiveU to implement a remote production solution, deploying only the necessary equipment on site, including the cameras and wireless transmission units. All the rest, including production, contribution and distribution, was handled by Tencent personnel back in the studio in Tencent’s technical center.

This was challenging work within the strict limitations of the COVID-19 outbreak. The event organizer closed the stadium, didn’t allow an audience to minimize the risk of people gathering in one place, and limited the number of essential staff onsite. Tencent Sports used four LiveU LU600 HEVC bonding units, which provided solid high-quality live video streams with low delay. All the streaming came to a single high-density LiveU server, with the same delay, optimizing LiveU’s Precision Timing™ in its at-home production solution. With support from China Unicom, 5G signal was also available in the field – all the LiveU units combined both 4G and 5G connectivity to ensure optimal streaming conditions.

Spectra Logic Announces SpectraLIVE, a Virtual Conference and Executive Meeting Programme to Help Customers Maintain Business Continuity

Spectra Logic, a leader in data storage and data management solutions, today announced that it will provide customers and partners with several virtual opportunities to connect and engage with Spectra leadership and product managers during this unique time of global uncertainty. With customers and partners in mind, Spectra has developed SpectraLIVE, a virtual conference and executive meeting platform, alongside its monthly webinar series, to help organisations maintain business continuity and make decisions related to managing, accessing and preserving their vital data.

“Keeping our employees, customers and partners around the world safe is our highest priority as we deal with the challenges posed by COVID-19,” said Betsy Doughty, vice president of corporate marketing for Spectra Logic. “To that end, we have proactively put together some unique virtual offerings so that we can continue to provide the highest level of engagement and support for our Spectra customers and partners. While the coronavirus outbreak presents new hurdles for the way we do business, we want to do all we can to keep organisations operating as efficiently and securely as possible during this time.”

With most industry shows cancelled and countries and organisations restricting employee travel, Spectra will be producing a virtual conference to enable interaction, education and engagement between customers, partners and Spectra executives. The event will take place on Tuesday, May 12, 2020, and will enable attendees to ‘walk the floor’ by hearing about the latest market trends, learning about Spectra solutions, asking questions, sharing feedback, watching product demonstrations, and meeting with Spectra executives. Spectra will be recording this for our SpectraLIVE library, so visitors can attend one or all presentations live or on-demand at their convenience.

Industry leading media asset management software provider IPV today announced the appointment of Philip McDanell as Chairman of the Board.

McDanell is a highly knowledgeable executive director with extensive experience in the media and technology sector, having held senior board positions at MTV, Chrysalis Group, and most recently Peach, formerly Group IMD, where he helped devise and execute the company’s global business strategy, growing the business value from £14m to £100m.

One choice that ticks all the boxes....Peli cases Posted: 20/03/2020
One choice that ticks all the boxes and hellip;.Peli cases

Documentary television cameraman Jonathan Young has relied on Peli cases to protect and transport his valuable camera kit for over 20 years. He has travelled with Peli cases to the most inhospitable and sometimes downright dangerous locations throughout the world, including war torn Afghanistan and Gaza.

He has embarked on his latest adventure with several new Peli Air cases; these have been designed and engineered to maintain the same level of durability, but reduce the weight of each case by up to 40 percent. Air cases are waterproof and crushproof and offer additional sizes to the Peli Protector and Peli Storm case lines.

Jonathan explained “I am shooting the new series, the South America leg of The America’s with Simon Reeve for BBC. This is the first leg of the journey across the Guyana Shield; Southern Venezuela, Guyana, Surinam, French Guiana.

These pictures were taken at the top of a Tepui. A Tepui is where the indigenous people’s gods live. They are sacred spaces that are 2800m above sea level. When working and camping at that altitude in such a rugged terrain, you have to be able to rely on the equipment you bring with you. To protect that equipment from the elements - sand, rain and the rough handling in transport to the top of the mountain in a cargo net slung under a helicopter, there is only one choice that ticks all the boxes…Peli cases.

The new Air range has taken every single journey I have made across various remote parts of the globe, housing my camera kit in its stride. I had worried at first that the cases might be too thin. My fears were unfounded. The cases I have used, they have taken every beating and battering baggage handlers, airports, rough tracks in pickups and the exposure to the elements. They have done exactly what they were supposed to do.”

The Peli Air range is now available in 16 sizes with more colour choices for many models. Deep cases and a long version, the 1745, have recently been added to the range.

How JetStream Accelerated File Transfer Helps Remote Teams Posted: 17/03/2020
How JetStream Accelerated File Transfer Helps Remote Teams

Remote working has grown by 173% since 2005. This rate will only increase as more companies instruct employees to work from home to slow the spread of COVID-19. During times of self-isolation, technology allows organisations to adapt working arrangements and remain productive at the same time. The speed at which teams share large files impacts how effectively they can work together.

File Transfer Acceleration

As companies enact work from home policies in an effort to keep their employees healthy, they may be challenged to maintain productivity. JetStream uses UDP file transfer acceleration protocol. Team members can collaborate faster wherever they are.

Transfer Once for Fast File Transfers

JetStream enables point-to-point transfers. Files are sent directly from the source to the destination and never at rest in a middle holding area, keeping data safer.

Scale Users As Needed

JetStream provides unlimited user connections at no additional cost. As a result, organisations can scale users as needed, especially when more and more workers are staying home.

World leaders in Media Asset Management software, IPV, today announced the immediate launch of “CuratorNow”, a private cloud, remote editing studio for professional video editors and producers to continue to create the content their businesses’ need from home, or indeed anywhere else as global events force changes in the way people have to work.

Able to be deployed in days, CuratorNow fast-tracks the ability of creatives to work from any location, including their home, with just basic Wi-Fi for project collaboration using the core tools of Curator, IPV’s proven flagship Media Asset Management platform, allowing for simple scalability and an easy upgrade path.

IPV CEO, Mark Fagan, said, “Curator has demonstrated capability to support complex media workflows across teams and organisations, around the world. CuratorNow, a rapid-deployment version, delivered through private cloud to ensure data ownership is retained by the user, will give enterprise grade video projects the continuity they need by supporting remote, collaborative working and ensure that video projects stay highly organised irrespective of user locations.”

CuratorNow quickly enables media managers to ingest hi-res video and log crucial technical metadata; the ability to easily search and find assets remotely; to edit with frame-accurate proxies using 98% less bandwidth than the hi-res files; to collaborate seamlessly on Adobe Premiere Pro projects and to conform completed content back to hi-res, all delivered through highly secure private cloud.

Fagan adds, “To collaborate quickly and effectively, video teams need, and expect an intuitive user experience. As Curator has been developed specifically for video professionals, CuratorNow benefits from both its best-in-class UI and best-practice media workflows making it incredibly easy to use and ready to go immediately requiring no configuration.”

Accurate Ad Tracking with OTT
Tim Armstrong As viewers embrace and transition to OTT, the opportunities and flexibility provided to advertisers are growing fast. However, like all technology shifts, this transition hasn’t come without challenges. Some technology used to monetise video over the years has resulted in a less-than-ideal viewing experience, with disruptive transitions and buffering two of the main issues. The good news is that advances in ad insertion technology mean content providers can now deliver a seamless OTT viewing experience, as well as addressable advertising options. This paves the way for the delivery of high-quality ad viewing while growing the advertiser's ROI.

The Importance of Audio Production Systems
Tom Knowles Large-scale entertainment programming presents a unique set of challenges for broadcasters. Often extremely high-profile keystones of a broadcaster’s schedule and increasingly billed as live ‘event television’, as well as delivering the very best audio quality they demand a huge degree of flexibility and agility in terms of their production. With music being such a core component of their appeal to growing audiences, in both linear broadcast and online, nowhere is that more important than their audio production systems.

After countless dives and extensive training to become a scuba diving instructor, I made the decision to attend university. Why Routing Control
Mark Davies Routing control sits at the very heart of all advanced control systems. A well-configured system that manages signal routes throughout a facility and groups multi-level actions into a single control surface allows for much richer and focused production. Using one-touch panels, operators could route video, audio and data signals between the various elements of a network, perhaps to route a camera signal to a vision mixer, as well as through other processors, before it arrives at its destination. Users could adopt routing control to trigger an external event, a complete reconfiguration of a multi-router setup, route several sources simultaneously, or make set routes or multiple routes via a single button press.
