Decimator Design has now started shipping the 12G-CROSS, including new

unannounced features.

NEW: Support added for conversion of 294 VESA formats via the HDMI input.

Pixel Power software enhancements bring real-world efficiencies in integration and amp; implementation Posted: 16/03/2020
Pixel Power software enhancements bring real-world efficiencies in integration and amp; implementation

To underline its strengths in moving users from legacy architectures to software-centric, fully virtualized solutions for multi-platform playout and graphics production, Pixel Power is launching major new versions of its core software technologies: Gallium Workflow Orchestration and StreamMaster Media Processing. Gallium 3.0 and StreamMaster 2.0 each add significant enhancements covering usability, operational efficiency and connectivity through widely recognised standards.

Through its functional-block architecture, the Gallium workflow orchestration platform allows system architects to build carefully tailored solutions to meet precise customer workflow requirements. Version 3.0 adds more than 50 enhancements with significant new functionality and usability improvements. That includes both live and file-based open and closed subtitling; audio watermarking; live, scheduled and delayed recording and scripted configurable triggering of external systems. In line with Pixel Power’s policy of supporting open systems in a flexible way, these triggers can use REST, UDP and XML based integrations.

Pixel Power’s media processing platform, StreamMaster, also sees a significant new version which adds capabilities that are driven by real-world requirements. StreamMaster 2.0 adds UHD support; uncompressed I/O over SMPTE ST-2110; OP47 and SMPTE 2031 subtitle insertion and flexible recording of the main output, input sources or clean feeds including playback whilst recording. As well as scalable multi-channel master control playout, Gallium and StreamMaster can readily be configured to produce fast turnaround live content for VOD distribution, for example for catch-up and time-delayed channels, while retaining the flexibility to change elements of the output such as advertising.

Middle Atlantic to Bring Speed, Reliability, and Broadened DC Power Support to European Integrators at ISE 2020 Posted: 27/01/2020
Middle Atlantic to Bring Speed, Reliability, and Broadened DC Power Support to European Integrators at ISE 2020

Middle Atlantic Products, a brand of Legrand | AV, today announced its lineup for Integrated Systems Europe (ISE) 2020 at the RAI Amsterdam, Feb. 11-14. At the Legrand | AV Booth 2-C50, Middle Atlantic's Forward family of installation solutions — designed to deliver greater system reliability, efficiency, and flexibility to the rack — will be making its European debut, complete with a new 3D interactive touch screen tool for demonstrations. In addition, the company will highlight its High Power DC Power Distribution Series, which is now shipping from local inventory in Europe with region-specific power plugs.

"We're committed to providing more solutions and support for our European customers, and ISE provides us with a fantastic opportunity to demonstrate that," said Tim Troast, vice president of product management at Legrand | AV — Middle Atlantic.

Middle Atlantic Broadens DC Power Support in the E.U. Posted: 06/12/2019
Middle Atlantic Broadens DC Power Support in the E.U.

Middle Atlantic Products, a brand of Legrand | AV, is building upon its commitment of delivering more solutions and support in the E.U. with local inventory and shipment of region-specific power plugs for its High Power DC Power Distribution Series. The versatile, higher-power-capacity solution was first introduced at ISE 2019 and provides maximum power to support more devices while also eliminating messy, space-consuming power supply units, also known as wall warts, from the AV design.

"Since we introduced our family of High Power DC Power Distribution options last year, the demand and customer requests in the E.U. have been amazing," said Robert de Jong, director of product marketing, EMEA at Legrand | AV. "Now, all of our E.U-specific DC Power Distribution models are available from our warehouse in Weert, Netherlands. With this product inventory availability, integrators in the region can complete installations with much shorter lead times. This is all part of ensuring our customers can solve today's AV challenges not only efficiently and quickly but also with maximum reliability."

Directors Cut upgrades to Baselight for HDR and 4K Posted: 31/10/2019
Directors Cut upgrades to Baselight for HDR and 4K

Independent London post house Directors Cut Films – owned and operated by its creative staff – has invested in a Baselight TWO colour grading workstation with a Blackboard 2 control panel. Directors Cut works primarily in premium long-form television, as well as drama series, documentaries and feature films, with increasing interest in 4K and HDR.

“Being owned and run by ex-editors, we know what is required to meet and exceed expectations in post,” said Senior Colourist Andy Elliott. “We felt it was the right time to invest and embrace HDR and 4K workflows. HDR in particular produces much more of a positive visual impact, with real benefits in the immersive experience for the viewer.”

Leading broadcasters and production companies in the UK routinely turn to Directors Cut to finish major projects. While the work includes major dramas and some feature films, the company has a reputation for long form TV, especially documentaries. Recent projects graded by Elliott include biographies of Cher and Elton John, an investigation of the Bauhaus for BBC4, and Sir David Attenborough’s call to action Climate Change: The Facts.

Elliott pointed out that such programmes frequently bring together footage shot on multiple different cameras and formats, often in less than ideal circumstances. The task for the colourist is to integrate all of the footage as well as create a coherent look that reflects the story the director wishes to tell. That makes the speed and power of the upgraded Baselight suite an important asset.

Pixel Power adds Software Defined Uncompressed IP Capability to established StreamMaster Integrated Playout

Pixel Power has today announced it will be adding uncompressed IP playout capability, based on the SMPTE ST 2110 family of standards, to its already well established StreamMaster playout technology. The development comes as a natural progression of incorporating new standards within its software defined technology platforms: StreamMaster Media Processing and Gallium Workflow Orchestration. Like all StreamMaster and Gallium functionality, SMTPE ST 2110 will be supported as software solutions whether on-premise or virtualized in a data centre.

The Business Case for Hybrid TV and AI
Oliver Botti Video on demand (VOD) and OTT live services have come a long way since their introduction and, rather than solely competing with traditional broadcasting, they are becoming more important than ever in helping to keep broadcast TV networks popular, in particular when combining TV broadcasting with online TV into Hybrid TV models, thanks to convergence standards such as HbbTV and Atsc3.0. In the UK, the average weekly OTT viewing minutes shot up from 60 in July 2015 to 152 in September 2018. Meanwhile, OTT TV and video revenues are expected to reach $6.8 billion by 2023 in the UK and $61 billion in the US.

Accurate Ad Tracking with OTT
Tim Armstrong As viewers embrace and transition to OTT, the opportunities and flexibility provided to advertisers are growing fast. However, like all technology shifts, this transition hasn’t come without challenges. Some technology used to monetise video over the years has resulted in a less-than-ideal viewing experience, with disruptive transitions and buffering two of the main issues. The good news is that advances in ad insertion technology mean content providers can now deliver a seamless OTT viewing experience, as well as addressable advertising options. This paves the way for the delivery of high-quality ad viewing while growing the advertiser's ROI.

Why Routing Control
Mark Davies Routing control sits at the very heart of all advanced control systems. A well-configured system that manages signal routes throughout a facility and groups multi-level actions into a single control surface allows for much richer and focused production. Using one-touch panels, operators could route video, audio and data signals between the various elements of a network, perhaps to route a camera signal to a vision mixer, as well as through other processors, before it arrives at its destination. Users could adopt routing control to trigger an external event, a complete reconfiguration of a multi-router setup, route several sources simultaneously, or make set routes or multiple routes via a single button press.
