DGA Productions Chooses Teradek and SmallHD for Safe Distancing on Location Posted: 12/08/2020
DGA Productions Chooses Teradek and SmallHD for Safe Distancing on Location

Will McAuliffe of DGA Productions of Watertown, Massachusetts is back at work, now relies on stricter COVID 19 protocols. One job he returned to was a sponsored web video on local running community, Heartbreak Hill Running Co. with the goal of getting a community feel despite the hardship of quarantine running.

“We kept the crew lean. McAuliffe’s colleague Josh Mercado doubled up as producer/director and talent. I was the DP, camera crew and MoVI operator. We wore masks and drove separately to the locations.” The key was having theTeradek Bolt 1000 XT transmitter with theSmallHD 703 Bolt 7” wireless HD monitor and receiver. “This allowed me, as MoVI operator, to successfully get shots needed while Josh, was able to watch and direct from a safe distance. The 703 Bolt has been a huge lifesaver because of its mobility.”

What’s McAuliffe’s take home for shooting in the age of COVID? “Keep it small— 3-4 person crews are the new norm. Wear face masks and go wireless with a Teradek Bolt transmitter and SmallHD 703 Bolt monitor/receiver. Plus, key to all productions is no longer gaff tape—it’s been replaced by hand sanitizer, and lots of it!” Watch: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WGs63UL2NTU

Doha 360 Selects Ikegami UHK-430 and HDK-99 Cameras for New 4K OB Vehicle Posted: 23/07/2020
Doha 360 Selects Ikegami UHK-430 and HDK-99 Cameras for New 4K OB Vehicle

Ikegami UHK-430 and HDK-99 cameras have been selected for a recently completed 4K OB vehicle commissioned by Doha 360, an IP-based media platform which enhances Qatar's national identity and reflects social and cultural progress through continuous coverage of cultural, sports and social events.

Designed and built by Milan-based broadcast system integrator Aret Video & Audio Engineering, the vehicle was commissioned in time to cover the Qatar National Day festivities celebrating the country's foundation in 1878.

"The Ikegami cameras were selected both for their high signal quality and for the proven excellence of Ikegami post-sale support," comments Aret's Vice President Alessandro Asti. "Eight UHK-430 models have been purchased plus two docking-style HDK-99. All 10 cameras can be tripod or pedestal mounted to achieve steady long-zoom closeup capture of fast-moving action while retaining the freedom to operate in free-style over-the-shoulder mode. The HDK-99 can be configured to feed directly from the camera control unit into any 4K periphery."

Mo-Sys introduces the one-stop 4K virtual studio

Mo-Sys, a world leader in precision camera tracking solutions for virtual studios and augmented reality, has brought virtual studio production within reach of everyone with StarTracker Studio, the world’s first pre-assembled production package. The system is scalable to any size production, and can support 4K Ultra HD.

Critical for virtual studio and augmented reality production is to track the position of each camera in three-dimensional space across all six axes of movement. StarTracker from Mo-Sys is proven as the most precise and reliable camera tracking package, using dots on the studio ceiling (“stars”) which are placed at random and tracked to plot camera positions with extraordinary accuracy.

The Business Case for Hybrid TV and AI
Oliver Botti Video on demand (VOD) and OTT live services have come a long way since their introduction and, rather than solely competing with traditional broadcasting, they are becoming more important than ever in helping to keep broadcast TV networks popular, in particular when combining TV broadcasting with online TV into Hybrid TV models, thanks to convergence standards such as HbbTV and Atsc3.0. In the UK, the average weekly OTT viewing minutes shot up from 60 in July 2015 to 152 in September 2018. Meanwhile, OTT TV and video revenues are expected to reach $6.8 billion by 2023 in the UK and $61 billion in the US.

The Importance of Audio Production Systems
Tom Knowles Large-scale entertainment programming presents a unique set of challenges for broadcasters. Often extremely high-profile keystones of a broadcaster’s schedule and increasingly billed as live ‘event television’, as well as delivering the very best audio quality they demand a huge degree of flexibility and agility in terms of their production. With music being such a core component of their appeal to growing audiences, in both linear broadcast and online, nowhere is that more important than their audio production systems.

Accurate Ad Tracking with OTT
Tim Armstrong As viewers embrace and transition to OTT, the opportunities and flexibility provided to advertisers are growing fast. However, like all technology shifts, this transition hasn’t come without challenges. Some technology used to monetise video over the years has resulted in a less-than-ideal viewing experience, with disruptive transitions and buffering two of the main issues. The good news is that advances in ad insertion technology mean content providers can now deliver a seamless OTT viewing experience, as well as addressable advertising options. This paves the way for the delivery of high-quality ad viewing while growing the advertiser's ROI.

Why Routing Control
Mark Davies Routing control sits at the very heart of all advanced control systems. A well-configured system that manages signal routes throughout a facility and groups multi-level actions into a single control surface allows for much richer and focused production. Using one-touch panels, operators could route video, audio and data signals between the various elements of a network, perhaps to route a camera signal to a vision mixer, as well as through other processors, before it arrives at its destination. Users could adopt routing control to trigger an external event, a complete reconfiguration of a multi-router setup, route several sources simultaneously, or make set routes or multiple routes via a single button press.
