CRYSTAL VISION RELEASES DIGITAL AND ANALOGUE VIDEO DAS FOR ITS NEW FRAME SYSTEM Posted: 31/10/2016
CRYSTAL VISION RELEASES DIGITAL AND ANALOGUE VIDEO DAS FOR ITS NEW FRAME SYSTEM

Crystal Vision has released two video distribution amplifiers for its new Vision frame system, both with more outputs than the company has ever offered before and including remote control as standard. The 3GDA-VF is a very flexible video distribution amplifier: it can be configured as reclocking or non-reclocking, it will distribute any digital video (3Gb/s, HD and SD) as well as being DVB-ASI compatible, and it is not even limited to video with its ability to distribute MADI audio. Including useful gain, equalisation and clamp adjustments, the VDA-VF analogue video distribution amplifier has been designed to distribute SD Black and Burst or HD tri-level syncs reference, and can also be used to create multiple copies of analogue video. Those using the Vision DAs have discovered that their systems work out cheaper compared to using the company's traditional Indigo range.

The Sachtler FSB 6 between Penguins, Snow and Eternal Ice Posted: 19/06/2013
The Sachtler FSB 6 between Penguins, Snow and Eternal Ice
The mainland is a white desert of snow, surrounded by a clashing cold ocean, and scarcely populated. Only the animals and few plants are accustomed to the difficult living conditions. This is the Antarctic. DP Alessandro Beltrame from Italy left his warm southern European homeland for two documentaries for The Antarctica Project, a cooperative project of the Italian government and the private broadcaster Mediaset. With scientists of the national research centers CNR, ENEA, and PNRA as well as the FSB 6/2 D tripod system by Sachtler, part of Vitec Videocom, a Vitec Group company, he spent a month at the South Pole with merciless temperatures dropping to -50° C (58 F), a real test for the crew and the equipment.

VISLINK Gains Eutelsat Approval for ADVENT FlyDrive 120 Antenna

Eutelsat, one of the top three satellite operators in the world, has granted highly coveted approval of VISLINKs ADVENT Flydrive 120 Antenna for inclusion in Eutelsats guide to the selection of the most appropriate earth station equipment to access Eutelsat capacity.

The ADVENT Flydrive 120 has been fully tested by Eutelstat for RF performance and its ability to auto-point point and peak an antenna to the Eutelsat fleet without the need for expert operators.

Eutelsat provides more than 3800 channels beamed from a fleet of 29 satellites covering up to 150 countries in Europe, Africa, Asia and the Americas.

Steve Levine Sounds Out The Neumann KH 120

Perhaps best known these days for his work on various radio series, Grammy-winning producer Steve Levine has worked with many of the biggest rock and pop artists and is regarded as having some of the best ears in the business. When it comes to studio monitors he is, as you would expect very discerning, but Neumanns new KH 120 has helped him to end a long-running search.

OConnor Supports Modern Family Posted: 01/12/2010
OConnor Supports Modern Family OConnor, a Vitec Group, announces that cinematographer James Bagdonas ASC has chosen OConnor fluid heads to support the new season of Modern Family. OConnors stability and high performance allows the shows operators to capture those on-the-fly moments key to the mockumentary style of the production.

Ive been using OConnor fluid heads my entire career, says Bagdonas. Ive had them on Lois and Clarke, The Guardian, Chicago Hope and Boston Legal. With my last two shows they have become the only head we use. For the style of this show, we decided to shoot with Panavised F35 cameras and either Primo or Optimo zooms.

Review: JVC GY-HC900 Camera
Andy McKenzie JVC has a long history of developing relatively low price-point equipment, dating right back to its success in the 1970s with the VHS tape format. JVC products sometimes impact the broadcast mainstream but generally find greatest success in niche market segments such as news production where price and portability take priority over the no-comprise quality and robustness demanded by the leading studio-based and OB content producers.

Canon EOS C300 MkII Camera Review
Andy McKenzie Canon described the EOS C300 Mark II at its launch as 'a game-changer for creative film-making'. What interested me was whether the camera's impressive feature set, compact size and very aggressive price point matched the needs of the video production market.

Slow Motion Video Techniques
Phil Well, those kinds of higher frame rates still pretty much belong to the big guns. The Phantom Flex will give you 2,000 frames a second at ultra HD or 1,000 fps at 4K. It produces truly stunning images, but at a price that is beyond the reach of all but those with the biggest budgets. The camera retails at a cool £100,000 (I’ll have three please) with a daily hire out charge of around £3,000 (including lighting and a technician). IDT’s OS series cameras produce equally high quality images at a cheaper price, but you’re still talking tens of thousands.

The 7 Steps to Saving Film
KitPlus We live in a world where - thanks to everything from smartphones to cheaper professional gear - more and more footage is being shot today than ever before. It's a little known fact, however, that as more movies are made, archived physical film works all over the world are in danger of being lost to the damage of time. The Library of Congress alone has documented that only 20% of U.S. feature films from the 1910 and 1920s survive in complete form, and according to European Parliamentary Research, as of 2014, 21% of European film works were held in archives, yet only 1.5% was digitized.

Highlighting YouTube Space
Peter Daffarn

Video, by definition, requires space and light.

However, the right space, with the right light, can make or break a production.

YouTube parent company Google's new London HQ in Pancras Square at King's Cross is certainly the right space. In fact, it's so right they've called it YouTube Space London, a 20,000 square-foot, state-of-the-art facility for collaboration, learning and production.

Test and measurement in a multiformat world
Kevin Salvidge The evolution of television technology since the days of 525-line and 625-line standard definition has left a large legacy of standards which modern broadcast systems now have to recognise and process. In today's video and audio business, creatives and technical staff have to be ready to handle a multiplicity of signal types.

Taming the 12Gbs beast and how to T&M it with the Qx
Phillip Adams The one thing you can say about working in the broadcast industry is that there isnt time to get bored! Hesitant, perhaps even frightened these days might be more accurate but bored, certainly not. Such is the case with the planned UHDTV roll out and the need for customers to invest in technology which will adapt as the technologies, proposals and standards evolve. For a company like PHABRIX the hiatus created by customers deciding where to place their investment money has produced a significant opportunity but also a problem: How to meet the evolving requirements of an industry with a suitably forward looking adaptable product available now!

Sony PXW-FS5 Review
Alister Champman I was lucky enough to get some hands on time with a prototype FS5 in Amsterdam at IBC. In case you havent heard about it, the PXW-FS5 is a compact interchangeable lens, super 35mm camcorder from Sony that can record in HD or UHD 4K. It shares many of the features of the already incredibly popular PXW-FS7 but in a much smaller body. As well as being similar to the FS7 it also has many similarities with the lower cost FS700, more on that later.

Shoot safe, shoot dynamic
Nick Allen Miles Todays craze for shooting from a UAV or drone is not for the faint hearted. Unless used legally and in very limited situations, its a dangerous way of capturing dynamic shots. Wherever people are involved or height restrictions apply, there are more useful ways of filming safely that deliver a more interesting shot than anything taken from a tripod mounted camera.
